Guidelines facilitating the translation process

Preparation is a key factor in making any language or translation project a success. Thorough pre-editing of text before handing it over to your language services provider will smoothen the process and thus minimize translation costs. Here is a small selection of the hows and whys:

How do I select the right language services provider for my source text? Will specialized vocabulary be reflected in the translation? Which file formats are handled by my language services provider? What about prices? And delivery terms?

The answers to some of these questions cannot be generalized since they are largely dependent on the file format, volume and subject-matter of the source text and the needs of the target text audience. They also relate to the individual translator's competences, areas of expertise and technical equipment. Still, a handful of basic guidelines and useful information will contribute to making the process more transparent and controllable.
